Part seventeen. Another short story I wrote for practice because lately, I've been losing my mojo :D
Untitled
They were almost everything but never anything; always blurring the line between what is there and what isn’t.
He sat down beside her, who didn’t even bother looking up from her sketching pad, wondering why that tonight, of all night, seemed like the perfect time to start talking to her. What would he ask? What would she answer? What would it feel like to finally be something?
An opportunity appears, finally,
“If you could turn back the course of time, what would you do?”
She stopped drawing, pencil and sketching pad set aside, and turned to face him. He found himself regretting ever opening his mouth as she looked into his eyes, trying to figure out what had brought that on. Silence engulfed them whole in the lonely starless night but was soon broken when her phone started ringing.
Can we pretend that airplanes In the night sky Are like shooting stars I could really use a wish right now Wish right now, wish right now
How fitting, he thought. It was as if the gods were mocking him that there’s no star to be wish upon tonight neither were there airplanes flying in the sky.
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars I could really use a wish right now wish right now, Wish right now
“Aren’t you going to answer that?” He asked when he saw that she made no movement to answer but instead kept on looking at him like she did before. He sighed as he got up from his place, thinking that there’s no way to get through her, and was about to walk away when he felt her hand holding onto his.
“Repeat the question you asked earlier.”
His heart swelled with warmth when she held onto his hand tighter as if she was scared that he would leave.
“Repeat.”
Sitting down once more, hands still being held onto, he faced her and smiled.
Even just for a moment, they had become something
“If you could turn back the course of time, what would you do?”
Letting go of his hand, she said,
“I would stop myself from making the mistake of meeting you.”
But when the moment ends, everything that is them becomes nothing once again.
The lyrics are, of course, from the song 'Airplanes' by B.O.B and Hayley. Random much, the story I wrote. Haha like I said, I've been losing my mojo :)
